Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at RootWise Academy
At RootWise Academy, every student deserves to feel seen, respected, and supported. We’re building a school community where people from all backgrounds can belong, participate fully, and succeed.
A Community Where Everyone Belongs
Our students, families, staff, and Board members bring different identities, experiences, cultures, and perspectives to our community. Those differences make our school stronger.
We welcome and value diversity across race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, socioeconomic background, language, immigration or citizenship status, family structure, and other aspects of identity.
What Equity Means to Us
Equity means recognizing that people may need different kinds of support to have fair access to the same opportunities. We consider equity when making decisions, developing programs, allocating resources, and responding to the needs of our community. Our goal is simple: every student should have a meaningful opportunity to learn, grow, contribute, and thrive.
How We Put Our Commitment Into Practice
We work to build a diverse community through thoughtful recruitment and admissions practices. Our curriculum and programs include a range of cultures, perspectives, histories, and experiences, helping students develop curiosity, empathy, and respect for others.
RootWise Academy also provides ongoing learning opportunities for staff related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural awareness. School expectations and disciplinary practices are applied fairly and without bias. We encourage honest, respectful conversations about identity, belonging, diversity, and equity. Students, families, and staff are invited to share their experiences and help us identify ways to make our school more welcoming and inclusive.
Listening and Growing
Creating an inclusive school requires continued attention and care. The RootWise Academy Board of Directors reviews our progress each year, and a designated DEI coordinator or committee helps guide this work, assess the school climate, and recommend improvements.
Feedback from students, families, and staff plays an important role in shaping our practices. We listen, learn, and make changes when needed.
Our Promise of Respect and Safety
Discrimination and harassment have no place at RootWise Academy. We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on race, color, national origin, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, socioeconomic status, language, immigration status, citizenship status, family status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. Concerns related to discrimination, harassment, diversity, equity, or inclusion are taken seriously. We respond promptly, investigate concerns appropriately, and work to address harm and protect the well-being of our community.
An Ongoing Commitment
Our approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion will continue to grow alongside our community. The Board reviews this commitment annually and updates it when needed to reflect the experiences of our community and responsible practices in education.
Together, we’re creating a school where every person is treated with dignity, every voice matters, and every student has the support they need to flourish.
